Scottish Literary, Scientific and Cultural Programme
Students will gain a hands-on familiarity with places and monuments that celebrate internationally-known people who have contributed to the rich Scottish scientific and literary heritage that is both classical and contemporary.

University of Glasgow
The University of Glasgow is the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland's four ancient universities. Located in Glasgow, the university was founded in 1451 and is presently one of seventeen British higher education institutions ranked amongst the top 100 of the world.
The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1583, is a public research university located in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The university is deeply embedded in the fabric of the city, with many of the buildings in the historic Old Town belonging to the university.
Edinburgh Castle is a fortress which dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, from its position atop the volcanic Castle Rock. Edinburgh Castle remains the most popular paid visitor attraction in Scotland. Historic Scotland maintains a number of facilities within the castle, including two cafés/restaurants, several shops, and numerous historical displays.
Loch Lomond is a freshwater Scottish loch, lying on the Highland Boundary Fault. It is the largest lake in Great Britain by surface area. The lake contains many islands, including Inchmurrin, the largest fresh-water island in the British Isles. Loch Lomond is a popular leisure destination.
Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands.

Palace of Holyroodhouse
The Palace of Holyroodhouse, commonly referred to as Holyrood Palace, is the official residence of the monarch in Scotland. The palace stands at the bottom of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, at the opposite end to Edinburgh Castle. Holyrood Palace is the setting for state ceremonies and official entertaining.
Fort William is the second largest settlement in the highlands of Scotland and the largest town. It is a major tourist centre. It is a centre for hillwalking and climbing due to its proximity to Ben Nevis and many other Munro mountains.
Stirling Castle is one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland. The castle sits atop Castle Hill, an intrusive crag, which forms part of the Stirling Sill geological formation. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and is now a tourist attraction managed by Historic Scotland.
Residential accommodation: single or twin rooms in a student residence, with en-suit bathroom facilities. Students are accommodated in Laidlaw House, a brand new boarding house. They can meet and watch TV and DVDs in the comfortable relaxation areas.
