Newbattle Abbey is a 700 year old Abbey that has been adapted into a college offering modern education facilities within a beautiful and historical location. Situated just 30 minutes bus ride from central Edinburgh in beautiful grounds, the building offers modern classroom, IT and dining facilities. The programme at Newbattle Abbey offers our standard English language tuition and excursions but also offers a little more insight into Scottish culture, tradition and heritage through a unique activity and cultural programme. Based from the abbey’s crypt and beautiful drawing room, Scottish themes are explored such as music, theatre, dress, history and culture, including opportunities to wear Highland dress including the kilt.

CEF (Common European Framework) levels used – A1 (Beginners) to C1 (Pre – Advanced).
15 hours English tuition per week.
A written language test is taken at the start of the course in order to place students in appropriate classes.
An optional end of course test determining progress is offered and a full written report from the lead teacher is written for each student.
Teaching is split into two ninety minute sessions each taught by a different teacher.
There is a unique Director of Studies in each centre ensuring academic quality and who reports into summer school head office Senior Academic Manager.
All academic staff is qualified, focused and professional teachers who care about student development.
Preparation for excursions takes place in class to maximize each excursion experience.
An end of course certificate is presented to each student.

出發外遊前,英語課的主題會與外遊有關,讓學生之後對當地名勝及文化有更多的了解。
課程修畢後,學生會收到証書。
Excursions
Full day excursions on Saturday and Sunday – locations can include Stirling and Stirling Castle, Glasgow and Burrell Collection, Loch Lomond and boat trip, Alnwick and Alnwick Castle.
Half day excursions on a Wednesday – locations can include Linlithgow Palace, North Berwick and Tantallon Castle, Firth of Forth boat trip to Inchcolm island, Falkland Palace and Fife coast.
Local visits – 3 each week, can include, Edinburgh walking tour, Edinburgh Castle, Camera Obscura, Holyrood Palace, Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh Dungeon, Museum of Scotland.
Full preparation is undertaken in the classroom with regards each excursion and information sheets are issued to every student to add to their Diary.
Informative, knowledgeable staff accompanying every excursion explaining key points of interest and significance throughout the day.
Shopping and supervised free time is allowed in each destination.
All standard rooms have their own wash hand basins. Shower ratio 1:5 in standard accommodation
All en suite rooms have their own shower, toilet and wash hand basin.
All rooms as a minimum have a comfortable bed, wardrobe to store clothes and a desk.
Each residence has its own house parent and males and females are separated by building or floor.
In shared rooms students are placed where possible with students from different countries. Also friends can be accommodated together if the school is informed before arrival.
Breakfast will be a continental/cooked selection. Lunch and dinner will be hot meals consisting of a minimum of 2 courses including a vegetarian option. Bread, water, salad and fresh fruit available at every meal. On excursion days a packed lunch will be provided.
